Expanding Agriculture in Urban Areas, One Farmer At a Time

Urban Farmer Field School is a program sponsored in part by the University of Maryland Extension. UFFS offers five free courses over a three-month program. Lancaster Farming’s Janice Booth recently visited the marketing program which was held at ECO City Farms on September 12.

The topics are: drip irrigation; self-care in a sometimes dangerous, stressful career; marketing; farm insurance and business structuring; and farm finances. Men and women of various ages and levels of experience come from their day jobs in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore to attend these three-hour classes as they prepare to become farmers.
